How Meditation Boosts Clarity Of Mind To Make You More Productive

mindfulness meditation

There is a lot of clutter and noise that fills our minds thanks in part to our careers and personal lives. Finding the path to achieving productivity can seem difficult with so much information spiraling through our heads. You can significantly increase your productivity by giving your mind a bit of clarity. The practice of meditation can help to put you on the path to peace.

What is Meditation?

Meditation entails creating a state of mind in which you think about absolutely nothing. Meditating just a few minutes a day can do wonders to restore calm to a chaotic world. Meditation has thousands of years of history and practice. Mayo Clinic reports that the original purpose of meditation was to help individuals gain a deeper understanding of sacred and mystical life forces.

Today, most people use meditation for relaxation and mind clarity. Meditation enables us to slow down and focus our attention. We can get rid of all our scrambled thoughts that may be blocking creativity and productivity.

All our lives we are taught to brainstorm and jot down our every thought when given a project, but amazingly, your best ideas may be waiting on the other side of some quiet time in a tranquil space.

What are the Benefits of Meditation?

In addition to clarity, meditation offers us several benefits including but not limited to the following:

• Improves blood circulation throughout our body which contributes to lower blood pressure, improved memory and an increased capacity for learning
• Reduction in stress levels
• Higher energy levels
• Better patience
• Decreasing negative thoughts and emotions

Meditating for Productivity

Meditation is not merely a spiritual or complimentary practice. Mindful meditation can also have a positive impact on your performance in the workplace.

Mindful meditation is the concept of being mindful of having an increased awareness of the present (National Institute of Health). Mindful meditation uses breathing, imagery and various techniques to boost relaxation of the mind and body.

Here are five side effects of meditation on productivity:

Positive Thoughts
Mindful meditation can help to save you from dwelling on defeat and your past failures. Instead, you can spend more time thinking positively and with clarity.

Improved Decision-Making Practices
Meditation may improve decision making and problem-solving skills thanks to its ability to reduce stress levels. This asset is particularly valuable when looking to establish goals or prioritize your workload.

Creativity
To be productive, it often requires a little bit of creativity in the workplace. Without creativity, productivity can come to a grinding halt. Creativity enables you to tackle big problems, think outside of the box, and reduce the fear of failure (entrepreneur.com).

Better Relationships
Mindful meditation can improve your empathy which can also lead to better working relationships within teams (inc.com). You can increase motivation among staff while also functioning in a supportive fashion.

Fewer Days from Work
It’s no wonder that companies like Google, Target, Goldman Sachs and Adobe adopted mindfulness programs to increase productivity. Mindfulness programs are saving thousands of dollars in employee health costs which in turn enables them to remain actively engaged in work and limit days lost in production.

How to Meditate
Meditation does not require a lot of work on your part. However, to see results, you must meditate regularly. Your primary goals are to find a quiet space, concentrate on your posture and breathing. The first few times you indulge in the practice of meditation, you may very well lose your focus, but do not give up too quickly. Hit the reset button and take a few breaths. Start again. It will take practice to perfect your meditation skills.

Your meditation session does not need to last too long in the beginning. Try meditating for one minute upon waking in the morning. Over time, increase the amount of time to two minutes, then five to ten minutes each day. Within a few months, you may increase your time to 30 minutes
